Privacy policy
This policy explains how the Auto SOS Android app (“the app”) handles information. It is written for people who install the app and for the Google Play listing.
Who we are
Auto SOS is published by the developer of this app. Questions about privacy: privacy@auto-sos.app.
What the app is for
The app helps you send an emergency alert to people you choose. It is meant to work on your phone. We do not ask you to create an account.
Information the app uses
The app only uses information needed to send an alert you start:
- Location. If you allow it, the app can include your position in the alert so the people you contact know where you are. Location is read when you raise an alert, not to build a history of where you go.
- Contacts, phone, and messages. If you allow them, the app uses the contacts and numbers you pick to place a call or send the alert. It does not copy your address book to us.
- Alert text you write. That text is part of the message you send. We do not keep a copy on a server of ours.
We do not run a backend that stores your location, contacts, or alert history. Processing stays on your device, and the alert itself goes through your phone’s normal call or message services to the people you selected.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not use the app to build advertising profiles.
- We do not show ads in the app.
- We do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not require an account, and we do not collect your name or email inside the app.
Permissions
Android will ask before the app can use location, contacts, phone, or messages. You can refuse a permission. Some alert features will not work without the permission they need. You can turn permissions off later in Android settings.
Third parties
Google Play distributes the app and handles purchase or install data under Google’s privacy policy. Your mobile operator delivers any call or SMS the app places at your request. We do not share your information with other third parties, because we do not receive it.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
How long information is kept
We do not store your alerts, location, or contacts on our servers. Anything the app keeps (for example a contact you saved for alerts) stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Messages you send may remain in your phone’s message or call history, and with the people who received them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under Swiss data-protection law and the GDPR, you can ask what personal information we hold and request access, correction, or deletion. Because we do not keep an account or a server copy of your alerts, there is usually nothing stored with us to retrieve. Email privacy@auto-sos.app and we will answer.
Changes
If the app starts collecting or sharing information differently, we will update this page and change the date at the top. The current version is always at https://auto-sos.app/privacy.html.
